Preserving Cultural Diversity in
The preservation
of our cultural diversity is essential for the continual success and goodwill
of America .
Our country is intentionally dubbed “the melting pot,” for its exceedingly
diverse demographics and endless opportunities. The problem with this, is that
many Americans fail to acknowledge and delve into their cultural backgrounds.
With global issues playing a prominent role in the daily lives of Americans, it
is time that America
is fully equipped with the knowledge and resources pertaining to other
cultures.
As Miss Northeast Arkansas,
I will encourage engagement and awareness of multiculturalism––which includes
but is not limited to: families, the workforce, our government, and especially
schools and educational institutions.
I will do this
by:
· Telling
my personal family story
· Encouraging
others to talk with their family or research more about their nationality
· Explaining
the positive effects of being part of the “melting pot”
· Work
with the International Student Centers, the Multicultural Centers and the World
Languages and Cultures Departments on Arkansas college campuses to create an outlet for student minorities to express their testimonies
· Partner
with groups such as the Multicultural Alliance and Amnesty International to foster a sense of autonomy within ones inherent diversity
· Challenge
others to utilize their inherent diversity—allowing for a better implemented, and globally aware community, state, and America.
The Miss America
Organization is an important avenue to carry out the awareness and support of
this issue. Engaging in different organizations, and emphasizing the importance
that Arkansas communities can have, is the force needed to see this goal set
into motion. Although we come from different backgrounds, we are all united as
Americans. Miss Arkansas and Miss America can be the primary players to
celebrate the “melting pot,” and preserve our cultural diversity.
